Okay first of all—this is a big deal. Like a really big deal.
You found your person, you’ve got the ring, and now you’re trying to figure out how to actually pull this off without overthinking every little detail. Which… let’s be honest… you probably already are 😅
If you landed here after Googling something like “best places to propose near me,” you’re in the right place.
I’ve photographed proposals all over York, Lancaster, Hershey, and the surrounding areas, and I can tell you right now—not every pretty place actually works well for a proposal. You want somewhere that feels right, looks amazing in photos, and doesn’t leave you standing there wondering what the heck to do next.
Let’s get into some really good options.

This one is always a favorite, and honestly… for good reason.
It’s beautiful without trying too hard, there are so many tucked-away little spots, and it gives you that romantic, colorful, soft kind of feel that just works every single time. You can walk around, keep things feeling normal, and then choose the right moment without it feeling obvious.
Photos here are always a dream.

If you want something a little more adventurous, this is such a good option.
You’ve got the river, the cliffs, the open views, and a backdrop that feels way different than the typical park proposal. It’s definitely more of a walk, so this is best for couples who are into the outdoors and don’t mind a little exploring to get to the good stuff.
And at sunset? So, so good.

If you want something a little more classy and timeless, the Capitol is such a solid choice.
Between the architecture, the steps, the open space, and all the little details, it has that polished look without feeling too formal. This is a really good option if you want your proposal to feel a little more elevated but still personal.
If you two are more into downtown date nights, coffee runs, city lights, and that kind of vibe, a rooftop proposal is just fun.
It feels different, a little more unexpected, and makes for such cool photos. Especially if you time it right with sunset or even just as the city starts to light up.
This is a great option if parks and gardens don’t really feel like your thing.
Honestly, this one is underrated.
If you already have a place you love going together, that can end up being way more meaningful than trying to force some huge setup somewhere random. It’s familiar, it’s personal, and every time you go back after that, it’s going to hit a little different.
And I love that.

This one never gets old.
It doesn’t have to be fancy. It just has to mean something. Maybe it’s where you met, where you had your first date, or somewhere tied to the beginning of your story.
That added meaning always makes the moment feel even bigger, and it makes the photos that much better too.

The biggest thing? Timing.
That hour before sunset is usually going to give you the prettiest light, and if you can swing that, do it. Early morning can also be really beautiful if you want things quieter and less crowded.
The other big thing is having an actual plan. We’ll talk through exactly where you’re standing, how it’s going to happen, and where I’ll be so I can capture everything without making it weird. You do not need to wing this.
And yes, what you wear matters. You don’t have to be dressed to the nines, but looking a little put together makes such a difference in the photos.
Also… please do not have your friend hiding in a bush with an iPhone 😂

If you’re planning to propose in York, Lancaster, Hershey, or nearby, I’d love to help you figure it all out and photograph the whole thing—from the nerves, to the actual moment, to those first just-engaged photos right after.
Once the ring is on, everything starts moving fast.
A lot of my couples come back for engagement photos, and then later on, I end up seeing them again for maternity, newborn, and family sessions too, which I absolutely love.

You do not need the most over-the-top proposal plan in the world.
You just need something that feels like you two, a location that actually works, and a solid plan so you can enjoy the moment instead of stressing through it.
That’s the good stuff.
