If you’re thinking about getting family photos in York PA, choosing the right location can make a huge difference.
This is something families ask me all the time.
And honestly… York has so many good spots that sometimes the hardest part is just choosing one.
Some locations are perfect for little kids who need space to move.
Some have gorgeous water views.
Some are full of trees and trails and that cozy nature feel.
These are some of my favorite places for family photos in York PA because they photograph beautifully in every season.

One of the things I love about the Rail Trail is how relaxed sessions feel there.
There are tree-lined paths, wooden fences, and lots of space to walk around. Kids can move, parents don’t feel awkward, and the photos end up feeling really natural.
And honestly, when kids are allowed to move a little, the photos are just better. More laughing. More personality. More moments that actually look like your family.

If you love the idea of water in the background, Lake Redman is such a beautiful spot.
The shoreline, the open sky, and the evening light out there are all gorgeous. It feels really calm and peaceful, which makes sessions feel easy instead of rushed.
It also works really well for bigger families because there’s plenty of space.

Reservoir Park is one of those locations that gives you a little bit of everything.
There are open grassy areas, beautiful trees, and some really pretty views of the water. It’s especially pretty in the fall, but honestly it works year-round.
It’s also a great option if you want a mix of relaxed candid photos and a few of those classic family portraits for grandma.

Mill Creek is always a favorite for families with younger kids.
There’s a creek, trails, rocks, and plenty of space for kids to explore a little. And when kids are having fun, the photos end up feeling way more natural.
Some of my favorite images from Mill Creek happen when kids are just doing their thing — walking through the water, holding mom and dad’s hands, or stopping to look at something they found.

Rocky Ridge is one of the prettiest spots in York, especially in the fall.
The tall trees and warm evening light make everything feel really cozy and beautiful. If you love that nature-filled look for your photos, this location is perfect.
Even when it’s not peak fall color, the scenery here still photographs really nicely.
The truth is there isn’t one “best” location.
The best place really depends on your family.
Some families love open fields and sunset light.
Some want trees and trails.
Some just need a spot where their kids can move around a little.
When families book with me, I always help them choose a location that fits their kids, their outfits, and the overall feel they want for their photos.
If you’re thinking about updating your family photos, I’d love to help you plan something relaxed and fun.
No stiff posing. No awkward standing around.
Just real moments with your people.
