Senior year is such a fun season of life.
You’re finishing high school, figuring out what comes next, and somewhere in the middle of all of that… senior photos show up on the list.
One of the first things seniors and moms ask me is:
“Where should we take the photos?”
And honestly, that’s one of my favorite parts of planning a session.
Around York and Lancaster we have so many fun locations. Some are full of flowers, some have water views, some feel more downtown and unique, and some give us that gorgeous sunset glow.
So if you’re starting to think about senior pictures, here are some locations I love using because they give us a lot of variety and personality during a session.

Yes… a funeral home.
And I promise it’s not as weird as it sounds.
Kuhner’s has one of the most beautiful garden areas with stone walls, greenery, and landscaping that photographs incredibly well. It’s peaceful, quiet, and honestly one of the most unique portrait spots in York.
Seniors always laugh when I first mention it… and then they absolutely love the photos.

Long’s Park is one of Lancaster’s most well-known parks and it’s gorgeous for photos.
There are open grassy areas, water views, big trees, and lots of little spots that photograph beautifully. It’s especially pretty during the summer when everything is bright green and the light starts getting soft in the evening.

Tucked inside Lancaster County Central Park is the Garden of the Five Senses, which is one of the prettiest little garden locations around.
Flowers, greenery, and winding paths make it perfect for seniors who want something soft and natural.
Mill Creek Preserve is perfect for seniors who love being outside. There are wooded trails, creek spots, and beautiful scenery everywhere you look. It’s one of those places where we can walk a little and keep finding new spots for photos. If you like nature and want something relaxed and a little adventurous, this is a great location.

Breezyview gives you beautiful countryside views along with a charming gazebo.
When the sun starts setting the light out there can be absolutely stunning. It’s perfect for seniors who want a soft sunset field look.
If you want something a little more city and elegant, the State Capitol area is amazing.
The architecture, big staircases, and beautiful buildings give photos a totally different look than a park session.
It’s perfect for seniors who want to bring a dressy outfit and do something a little extra.

Downtown sessions are so fun because they bring in personality.
Brick walls, murals, storefronts, and cool little businesses give photos a totally different vibe. I’ve even photographed seniors inside record stores which makes the session feel completely unique.
If a senior wants photos that feel a little more edgy and creative, downtown is always a great option.

John Rudy Park is one of the best places for that beautiful golden sunset field look.
The open fields, bridges, and trees photograph so nicely, especially in the evening. It’s perfect for seniors who want soft light and a natural outdoor vibe.

Sam Lewis State Park is one of those places where the view just makes people stop and say “wow.”
The park sits high above the Susquehanna River, which means you get these huge open views and beautiful sunset skies. If a senior wants those golden light photos with fields and big skies behind them, this spot is amazing.
It’s especially pretty in the evening when the sun starts dropping and everything turns that soft glowy color photographers love.

Sometimes one of the most beautiful places for senior photos is actually a wedding venue.
Many venues around York and Lancaster have incredible gardens, stone buildings, and open fields that photograph beautifully. When we have access to a venue, it can make a senior session feel really unique.

Senior sessions should feel fun and personal.
Bring outfits you love.
Bring things that represent you.
Pick a location that matches your personality.
And if mom wants to sneak in a few photos at the end… we always make that happen too.
