I’m going to say it… the sitter stage might be the best baby age there is! They’re happy, curious about everything, and those big gummy smiles show up every five seconds.
Babies around six to eight months are basically tiny happy humans who think everything is hilarious. You make one weird noise and suddenly they’re cracking up like you just delivered the best comedy show of their life.
They can sit up, they’re curious about everything, and they give you these big goofy grins that make everyone in the room melt a little bit. Babies at this age are SO FUN to hang out with. You make a silly sound, they laugh. You clap your hands, they’re thrilled. You hide behind the camera for two seconds and pop back up… best day ever!
I would love to share with you a sweet little session right at home in Lancaster, and this baby girl was bringing the personality. The smiles, the curious little looks, the “wait… what is THAT?” expressions — all of it!!
If you want to read more about milestones around this age, the CDC milestone guide is actually really helpful:

This is also the stage where babies start figuring things out. You can literally see their brains working while they look around the room like tiny scientists. The light coming through the window. Mom talking to them. Dad making ridiculous noises behind me so we get a smile.
It’s chaotic in the best way and I love every second of it.
Most sitter sessions happen around 6–9 months old, which is basically the perfect baby photography window. They can sit up. They’re full of personality. They haven’t entered the “I will crawl away from you at full speed” phase yet.
It’s the sweet spot.

And then there are the tiny details.
The little hands.
The eyelashes.
The squishy cheeks.
Parents always tell me later that these are the photos that hit them the hardest because those tiny features change so quickly during the first year.
Even during baby milestone sessions, I always pull mom and dad in for a few photos. Not because I’m trying to be sentimental… but because someday this baby is going to want to see what life looked like when they were little. All the snuggles and kisses. The way babies look at their parents like they’re the most important people in the universe.
Those are the moments that matter!!!

If your baby is getting close to the sitter stage, this is one of the best times to capture photos before they suddenly become a full-speed toddler with places to be.
I photograph baby milestone sessions for families throughout Lancaster, York, and the surrounding areas, usually right in the comfort of your home where babies are happiest and parents can actually relax.
