I don’t know who needs to hear this, but… how are they seniors already??
Didn’t we just buy them snacks for practice, drive them all over creation, and blink once? And now somehow we’re talking about senior photos, graduation, and what the heck comes next.
It’s a lot.
And if you’re here, I’m guessing you don’t just want “a few nice pictures.” You want photos that actually look like your kid. Their personality, their style, their energy, the way they are right now in this weird, exciting, emotional in-between stage.
Because this is one of those things you’re going to be SO glad you made time for.

Location matters way more than people think.
It’s not just about picking somewhere pretty. It really changes the whole feel of the session. Some seniors want flowers and soft light. Some want something more modern and clean. Some want a city feel. Some want a field, a garden, or a place that already means something to them.
That’s why I always say this part should be fun, not stressful. We can figure it out together based on your senior’s personality and what kind of look they want.
Some of my favorite spots for senior sessions are places like Hershey Gardens, Long’s Park, downtown Lancaster, downtown York, the State Capitol, and some really pretty open field locations. But honestly, sometimes the best location ends up being one that is personal to your senior. A school campus, a sports field, a coffee shop, or somewhere that just feels like them can be just as good.
If you want to see examples of different spots, check out some of my favorite senior photo locations here so you can start getting ideas.

If you’re torn between two totally different vibes… I’m going to say this with my whole chest — you don’t have to choose.

This session is the perfect example of why I love incorporating multiple locations and outfit changes. We started in a softer, more classic setting with neutral tones, cozy textures, and that effortless, everyday kind of feel. Then we switched things up — different outfit, different location, completely different energy — and suddenly we’re getting something a little more bold, a little more editorial, and honestly? A whole different side of her personality.

That’s the magic.
You’re not just one thing. You don’t have just one vibe. And your senior photos shouldn’t feel like they have to fit into one little box either.

Outfit changes let you show off different sides of your style — something relaxed, something dressed up, something that feels so you. And adding a second location? That just takes it to the next level and gives your gallery so much variety without feeling repetitive.
If you’re on the fence about it, this is your sign. Do both. Trust me — you’ll be so glad you did.

Let’s just calm the group text down right now 😅
You do not need to buy an entirely new wardrobe for senior photos. You do not need twelve outfits. And you definitely do not need to spiral in the dressing room wondering why nothing feels right.
What you do need are outfits that feel like your senior and make them feel good. That’s it.
I usually recommend a mix so the gallery has variety. Something a little more casual, something a little more dressed up, and maybe one outfit that feels extra fun or different. This gives you a gallery that feels full without trying too hard.
A few things that always photograph really well:

shoes they can actually walk in without wanting to cry halfway through
outfits that fit well and feel comfortable
colors that work together without being too loud
simple textures like denim, knits, linen, or flowy fabrics
And if your senior is stuck between a few options, I’m always happy to help. Seriously. Send me pictures. I love helping with this stuff.
If you want a little extra help before the session, reach out here and we can start planning together because this is absolutely something I walk people through.

One of my favorite things about senior sessions is when they actually feel like you. Not just a cute outfit and a pretty location — but something that means something.
If there’s something that’s part of your story, bring it. That could be your culture, your heritage, something your family has passed down, or even just a look that feels like home to you. These are the photos that end up meaning the most later on.

And it doesn’t have to be big or over-the-top either. I’ve had seniors bring books, sports gear, instruments, even things tied to what they’re going to school for (yes… stethoscopes included 👏). Those little details? They make your session feel completely different — in the best way.
At the end of the day, this isn’t about fitting into a “senior photo look.”
It’s about creating something that actually feels like your life right now.

Okay, this part matters.
A lot of people still think fall is the season for senior photos, but honestly, spring and summer have been just as popular lately, if not more. Everything is green, the light is beautiful, and there’s just this really easy feel to sessions that time of year.
The biggest issue is not picking the “perfect” month. It’s waiting too long.
Because then what happens? Life gets busy, schedules get packed, everyone realizes at the same time that they still need senior photos, and now the dates you actually wanted are gone. Not ideal.
If senior photos are even kind of on your mind, it is so much better to reach out early. That way we have time to talk through location ideas, outfits, and the overall look you want instead of throwing something together at the last minute.
And if you’re looking at this while trying to plan around sports, vacations, school stuff, and seventeen other things, contact me here and we’ll get something on the calendar before it turns into a whole thing.

I know this is the part people secretly worry about the most.
Because almost every senior starts out thinking some version of, “I don’t know what to do,” or “this is going to be awkward,” or “please don’t make me smile weird.”
Totally normal.
But here’s the thing. Once we get going, it stops feeling like this big scary photo session and starts feeling a lot more like hanging out while I make your senior look really, really good.

We move around. We talk. We laugh. I guide the whole thing, but it never feels like a giant production. I’m watching what works, what feels natural, what brings out their personality, and I help with all of it along the way.

So no, they do not need modeling experience. They do not need to know what to do with their hands. They do not need to show up already confident in front of the camera.
They just need to show up.
If you want to get a feel for how my sessions look and the kind of images we can create, view more senior sessions here.

One thing I really love doing before senior sessions is hopping on a quick Zoom call with the senior and mom or dad.
It’s such a simple thing, but it makes a huge difference.

We can talk through outfit ideas, go over locations, figure out the vibe, answer questions, and just get to know each other a little bit before the session.
By the time photo day gets here, everyone feels way more relaxed because it’s not like I’m some random stranger showing up with a camera.
It just makes everything easier.
And honestly, I love getting to connect that way beforehand. It helps me learn more about your senior, and it helps them feel a whole lot more comfortable going into the session.
If that sounds helpful to you, send me a message here and we can start planning.

I know senior year comes with a million things to think about. Dates, deadlines, graduation stuff, school things, future plans, all of it.
But this? This is one of the good parts.
This is the part where you get to pause for a second and capture who your senior is right now before life changes again. And trust me, it does not stay like this for long.
That’s why I care so much about making these sessions feel personal and fun and actually worth it. Not just pretty photos, but images that feel like your kid in this exact season.
And those are always the ones that matter most.

If you’re reading this and thinking, okay yes, we need to do this, then let’s make it happen.
We can talk through locations, outfits, timing, all of it, and put together a session that feels easy and exciting instead of overwhelming.
And if you want to keep looking around first, I’d start here:
